The volume of new housing sales grows in Australia. The world's most expensive apartments are marketed in Hong Kong. Ukraine plans to build new type of economy-class housing.
In Australia, sales of new housing have increased by 11%, August to July. It is the sharpest monthly increase of this indicator over the last three and a half years.
The volume of housing sales on the US market has declined by 2.7%, in August 2009, compared to the preceding month. We would like to note that, in yearly comparisons, the sales volume has increased by 3.4%.
In August, median prices of apartments in Minsk have increased by 0.3%, up to $1359 per a sq. meter, compared to July. Experts claim that price decline has already come to a halt, and now one may speak of a price correction.
In yearly comparisons the average cost of Dutch primary housing has plunged by 16.4% this August, down to €280 thousand. Over the same period, residential property in the country has depreciated by 5.6% nationwide.
Two luxurious flats with a floor area of 370 sq. m. each, priced $38.7 million per a unit, have been put on market in Hong Kong. If the owners would manage to sell them for current asking prices (which would mean app. $96770 per a sq. m.) the flats will become the most expensive housing in the world.
The number of new housing starts in Spain has declined by 60% in Q2, compared to the same period last year. In comparison to the preceding quarter the present indicator has plunged by 5.4%.
Ukrainian building association (UBA) plans to erect a series of low-rise homes, priced at $400-500 per a sq. m. The case in hand is typical economy-class housing, similar to homes built during the eras of Stalin and Khrushchev. The service life of such building is expected to reach 50 years.
Effective January 1, 2010 a new rate of annual tax for all property types comes into force in Trinidad and Tobago. For land plots the tax will work out 1% of the value, for residential and commercial properties - 3% and 5% respectively. It should be noted that the tax will be calculated not on the basis of an estimated value (as in majority of other countries), but based on the current market price of a unit.
The British party of Liberal Democrats has presented a draft law, in accordance to which, owners of homes worth more than €1.1 million will be subject to a new tax, which will amount to up to 0.5% of the unit's price.
The Savills consulting agency has published a rating of cities leading in terms of transactions with office space during the first half of 2009. Tokyo became a leader of this rating ($6.59 billion). London ($3.6 billion) and Paris ($1.72 billion) are situated on the second and third places, while the fourth line is occupied by Seoul ($1.64 billion). The TOP-10 also includes New York, Moscow, Shanghai, Munich, Madrid and Hong Kong.
British insurance broker wants to "palm off" his mansion, worth €745 thousand, by very original means. He plans to organize a lottery; its winner will be determined by a...fish. In order to participate in this lottery, you need to pay €55 and solve a Japanese puzzle. The broker plans to install a special sensor panel with the contenders' names engraved on it in his aquarium, and wait till his fish, who's living there, touches it. The requests are accepted up to February, 1 2009. The broker plans to attract 14 thousand people
