The Knight Frank international consulting agency has prepared a report dedicated to the state of housing prices in various countries, as of Q3 2009. The most significant yearly drop in prices has been registered in Dubai (47%), Estonia (35.8%), Lithuania (34.2%), Bulgaria (28%) and Thailand (18.4%). Over the specified period, the sharpest growth of prices has been observed in Israel (13.7%), Austria and Malta (9.7% each), Switzerland and Australia (7% and 6.2% respectively).

According to the US-largest mortgage agency Freddie Mac, over Q3, local housing prices have increased by 1.1%, in comparison to the preceding quarter. The most significant appreciation of housing is attributed to California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Alaska.

In October, the cost of new homes in Azerbaijani capital, Baku, has climbed up by 0.1%, compared to the preceding month. Over the same period, prices on the secondary market have decreased by 2.9%.

Apartment prices have increased by 2% on the secondary market of Belorussian capital, Minsk, November-to-October. According to the UK-largest mortgage bank Halifax, national housing prices have increased by 1.4% October-to-November.

In November, the value of residential property in 70 first-tier Chinese cities has climbed up by 5.7% year-on-year. That said, according to a study prepared by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, 85% of local families can not afford to buy housing.

In yearly comparisons, the average cost of Spanish housing has decreased by 6.6% in November. The decline has only amounted to 3.2% on the Balearic and Canary Islands, while a month earlier the annual rate of decline had reached 7.8%.

In November, foreign acquisition of Cyprian residential property has soared by 35%, compared to October, up to 158 properties. The monthly increase in buying activity has been observed in all major cities of the island.

The total value of building permits issued in Canada over October has reached 6.1 billion Canadian dollars ($ 5.8 billion), an 18% growth in comparison to September. The increase has been most noticeable in the segment of non-residential properties.

In October, the number of mortgage loans taken out for housing purchase in the UK
has amounted to 55.3 thousand, which is the highest level since December 2007.


The total value of mortgage loans issued in Slovakia over October has increased by
0.6%, in comparison to the preceding month, up to €5.15 billion.

The state of Oregon, located not far away from the city of Arlington, U.S., plans to build the world's largest wind farm. The facility with a capacity of 845-megawatt implements the installation of 338 wind turbines, 2.5 MW each, united in a single complex. The power plant will occupy the territory of 77.7 sq. km, while the energy generated by it would be sufficient to power 235 thousand homes. The volume of investment in the project will reach $1.4 billion.
